One afternoon after school way back in May 2013, Connor (my eldest son) asked innocently enough, "Dad, I don't understand. School is just ending, and the summer is just starting, and baseball is almost over. Why can't we keep playing?"
Well, for those who know me, that seemed like an easy enough challenge to overcome. I had already coached baseball at the high school level for 4 years, certainly I must be competent enough to organize a group of 7-year-old boys, right? At least that was my thought at the time - we'd find some other kids around Connor's age, ask them if they wanted to play, practice for a few weeks, and play a couple of tournaments. That was it. It was supposed to be 11 kids, 6 weeks and 2 tournaments almost 7 years ago. There was no master plan. No grand vision. No idea of what would come; in fact, there was no plan for anything to come at all. It was literally supposed to be 6 weeks, 11 boys, 2 tournaments and back to school and 2nd grade in the fall. That was it. Nothing more, nothing less. Just some kids and a game..........
Fast forward to 2023 where the Tripletown Aces includes 16 teams involving more than 185 families participating in our youth sports revolution. With the support of a small group of families and advocates, we are making a difference. In fact, we are changing the world!
I am very excited about the program’s future prospects. I anticipate continued, but measured and intelligent, growth, in our program’s size and scope. We now have fulltime players from two states in Pennsylvania and Maryland and part-time players from three more in Delaware, New Jersey, and Virginia. By maybe all measures, we are now the largest travel baseball program in Central Pennsylvania; we are very confident that we are the most robust non-profit travel baseball program in the area. We have intentional plans to expand our reach into the community in 2023. I am personally very excited to launch our ’10,000 Acts of Kindness’ campaign next March in conjunction with the start of our 2023 schedule and to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We really do believe that a small, local baseball program can be a catalyst for positive change.
