One afternoon after school way back in May 2013, Connor (my eldest son) asked innocently enough, "Dad, I don't understand. School is just ending, and the summer is just starting, and baseball is almost over. Why can't we keep playing?"
This simple question inspired me to organize a youth baseball group. Despite four years of high school baseball coaching experience, I approached the project modestly. The initial plan was straightforward: find some other kids around Connor's age, ask them if they wanted to play, practice for a few weeks, and play a couple of tournaments.
It started with 11 kids, 6 weeks and 2 tournaments. There was no master plan. No grand vision. No idea of what would come.
By 2023, the organization had grown to include 16 teams involving more than 185 families participating in our youth sports revolution. The program now has full-time players from two states -- Pennsylvania and Maryland -- and part-time players from three more in Delaware, New Jersey, and Virginia.
The Tripletown Aces is the largest travel baseball program in Central Pennsylvania and the most robust non-profit travel baseball program in the area.
As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary, we are launching a "10,000 Acts of Kindness" campaign to commemorate the milestone and demonstrate that a small, local baseball program can be a catalyst for positive change.
